Installing HyperSpin

Before I begin explaining how to install HyperSpin, I would like to share what I know about it. HyperSpin for those who are trying to figure it out is a "front end". What this means is that HyperSpin doesn't actually come with all of the emulators and ROMs associated with arcade machines and game consoles. It's only the graphical interface you see, allowing you to easily navigate through emulators and games. It will then use code to open the emulator and ROM for you with a press of a button. It's a very convenient and organized interface.

Download: HyperSpin
Download: HyperLaunch
Download: HyperLaunchHQ

Step One: Open your C:\ drive and create a folder named HyperSpin. Proceed to download HyperSpin. After downloading, open the contents and extract them to your created HyperSpin folder at C:\HyperSpin.

Step Two: Open your HyperSpin folder to make sure everything looks like the linked picture above. Now that we are here create a new folder in the HyperSpin folder called HyperLaunch. Download HyperLaunch, when finished extract the files to the folder you just created at C:\HyperSpin\HyperLaunch. Now we need to create a folder in here called HyperLaunchHQ. Go ahead and download HyperLaunchHQ now, and when finished extract the contents into the folder you created like previous steps.

Step Three: You are now all setup and installed with all the correct components for HyperSpin to work correctly! It was really that easy. You will now need to start setting up your emulator folder and start downloading emulators to actually play consoles and games. You can find information on how to setup up and structure your emulator folders at the e
mulators part of my webpage.

Setting Up HyperLaunchHQ and Configuring an Emulator

HyperLaunchHQ is an important interface needed to run, and optimize settings for HyperSpin. It's through HyperLaunchHQ that we will actually make the connection of code to have HyperSpin execute our emulators and ROMs.

Step One: Open your HyperSpin folder and navigate to your HyperLaunchHQ folder. Open the Setting Folder. In there you will see a couple XML files, two which are named "Global Emulators" and one that has "Global Emulators (Example)." Delete the file that is named "Global Emulators." Once it is deleted, re-name the file left to just be "Global Emulators." We are just deleting the word (Example) out of the name, this (Example) happens to be the correct file and is the one which will find all of the emulators.

Step Two: Navigate to HyperLaunchHQ.exe and open it up. On the first opening, it will tell you it cannot find HyperLaunch, and will ask for you to point to the correct directory. Just choose the directory folder named "HyperLaunch" in your HyperSpin folder. HyperLaunchHQ will then begin to start up.

Step Three: Once opened, make sure you are clicked on the "GLOBAL" tab on the left hand column. Then navigate to the "Emulators" tab. Once there find the option for which emulator you would like to configure with HyperSpin. For this example I'm setting up Project64. So scroll down until you see the emulator and the correct version (if not same version, find closest) and double-click it. It will open a prompt. You will need to fill in the empty path name for where your emulator is located. So click on the magnifying glass and point to where you have stored Project64.exe, which should be C:\HyperSpin\Emulators\Nintendo64\Project64 v2.0\Project64.exe. After you have corrected the path for where to open the emulator, you can close that dialog window.

Step Four: Now click on Nintendo 64 on the left hand column, and click on the "Emulators" tab. You will see 2 empty path names we need to file. Where the ROMs are located, and picking the emulator we just finished setting up. This picture will show the example of what clicks to make. Click the + button for the ROM Directory, and navigate it to open where your "roms" folder is located for that emulator. Next choose the default Emulator by pressing the magnifying glass and choosing the Project64 2.0 or Project64 [Global] option. You are now all setup, and should be able to launch HyperSpin and use the Nintendo 64 section properly.
